The Chandel-Chauhan Conflict during the reign of Chandel King Parmardidev was an event that changed the history of the country. Delhi King Prithviraj Chauhan found Chandeli power to be the biggest obstacle in the battle for supremacy and then an excuse was sought. The heroes of the Chandeli army, Alha-Udal, had to live in Kannauj as a result of their expulsion from the kingdom, which was the most beneficial opportunity for the Chauhans.
Chandel-Chauhan conflict in Bundelkhand
For this reason, Prithviraj Chauhan attacked Sirsa Garh, the Chandeli gate (from where the kingdom of the Chandelas begins), then Mahoba became the battlefield and finally there was a fierce battle of Bairagarh. Who won is a matter of controversy, but historians are of the opinion that Chauhan was victorious. There was a treaty between the two sides, due to which some part of the Chandel kingdom became Chauhans’ and the boundary of the Chandelas shrunk.
The conclusion of the increase or decrease in the boundaries is not as important as the conclusion of the famous historian V.V. Vaidya is of the opinion that ‘this should be considered a mistake which became the cause of national destruction’, because Prithviraj Chauhan was one of the leading Kshatriya rulers of India at that time.
The meaning is that Prithviraj Chauhan’s desire to expand his kingdom broke the power of the Chandelas which frightened the foreign invaders. The Chauhans did not recognize the national awakening through the union of states through which the Chandelas had worked. When the backbone of the nation was broken, then it was difficult to escape safely from the invaders.
