The history of Bundelkhand is very ancient and in ancient times, Guru Dronacharya of Mahabharata was born in a village named Baghaat (Wakat) east of Jhansi in the region of Bundelkhand. A high hill in Baghaat village is adorned with caves and in one of these caves, ancient paintings have been painted which is a symbol of ancient painting.

Apart from this, Bundelkhand has been the land of meditation of Tulsi Das, Sur Das, exile of Lord Shri Ram, Narayani Sena of Lord Shri Krishna, Kavi Bhumi of Keshav and art land of Triveni poets. In ancient times, the elephants that were caught in India were caught from the forests here.

The history of Bundelkhand is as inspiring and thrilling as that of any other region in the world. Bundelkhand has been very fortunate from educational, cultural, artistic, natural and religious perspectives. Since the Puranic period, many books in Bundeli and Khari Boli have been written here.

For ages, many great poets and writers of Sanskrit and Hindi have increased the glory of this region through their sadhana. The culture and civilization of Bundelkhand has been at the peak of progress.

Valmiki, Ved Vyas, Bhavbhuti, Jagnik, Tulsi, Keshav, Bihari Matiram have lived on the land of Bundelkhand. Bundelkhand had a bright and glorious past. Today we get emotional as soon as we remember the past. The past is written in the golden pages of history and inspires us to progress. This is the same Bundelkhand which has shown its greatness by producing heroes, poets, painters, artists and singers from time to time.

Unparalleled streams of literature, music and art flowed here. It is the influence of Bundelkhand that artists like music emperor Tansen, Baiju, Mridangacharya Kudau, Ragini expert Adil Khan, Pandit Gopal Rao, Master Purandare etc. have increased its glory through their raginis. Artists like world conqueror Gama, Imam Baksh, hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand, famous player Roop Singh, and painter Kali Charan and sculptor Master Rudra Narayan are the gifts of this glorious Bundelkhand.

Bundelkhand has been the center of art where the sculpture of the temples amazes the world. Even today, the ruins of forts, palaces and temples hum the tale of their glory like silent seekers. On this sacred land, Khajuraho, Devgarh, Ajaygarh, Chanderi and Gwalior etc. archaeological and architectural centers and Chitrakoot, Orchha, Kalinjar, Sonagiri, Sun Temple Unnao (Balaji) etc. pilgrimage places have come together which are a special center of attraction for tourists from all over the world.

Bundelkhand has been a unit in all aspects of history, culture, language, etc. Here, Bundelkhand has the blessing of lakhs of acres of fertile land, Betwa, Ken, Dhasan, Chambal, Narmada, Sindh, Pahuj etc. rivers for the farmers. It is a matter of pride for India that in the Vindhya ranges of Bundelkhand, the heart of India, there are diamond mines of Panna, marble of Bhedaghat, and the immense mineral wealth of gold, silver, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, mica and gaura, which are safely stored underground.
